9/5/70 - Everything's Linda (...er, Lola)

With the web up and running (and hopefully with Twitter and the blog reconnected), we can finally move on with the blog and hopefully move forwards with the songs in said blog.  This time we've got one of the leading females of rock (we think), another of the big females of pop (we know) and the arrival of a "little big" songwriter. (don't kill me)

8/29/70 - A Grand Funk Voyage (with a Neanderthal Man)

I've been having a ton of web problems as of late so I sort of hope this gets through...but don't expect it to.  Anyway, we do have an interesting entry ahead of us, complete with the emergence of a couple of notable 70s acts...in earlier bands, as well as the father of MTV...sort of. (well they probably bastardized his idea)

8/22/70 - Top 40 Success: Ernie - 1, Elmo - 0

This entry is essentially is mostly going to be about one song...well, one song in particular.  Sure there are six songs in the entry (including more by Elvis, Tom Jones and Neil Diamond, let alone the arrival of Tony Orlando and...well, a rather notable/infamous cover), but this entry can be summed up in one word, just one word, and one word alone:

ERNIE.

8/15/70 - It's a Shame (Anne Murray Gets No Respect)

Well here it is, one of the biggest, loudest nights of music of the year...and I'm still at it with my crazy listening of old songs from a bygone era.  Let's face it: while there probably is good music out there, it's tough to find it in the mainstream...at least in the popular circles.  But hey, at least the popular circles of 1970 are still there to be mined, this time with more Aretha, more jamming with Rare Earth, and two newcomers who will have major impact on the pop scene...and yes, the woman in my title is one of them!

8/8/70 - Solitary Mountain-Making Out My Back Door

I know that a few of you probably were waiting for this entry yesterday but...I actually had too much work to do with other things so it's slightly late.  But at least it's not going to be boring: this time we've got a few career defining songs from two notable artists, as well as...well...a Motown classic being overblown by the queen of such things. (you've been warned)

8/1/70 - Pollution vs. Canada

The last week has been really hectic on my end (don't ask), but somehow here we are again for another blog entry with more music from a classy and by-gone era.  This time: we got the Duke of Earl, Ike and Tina, and two different perspectives about humanity's duty to our fair planet...only fourty years ago and written by Canadians. (you have to admire their innovation for knowing we were screwing ourselves even then)

7/25/70 (pt. 2) - Get Up (I Feel Like) A Cookie Monster

 It's sort of strange getting two entries in one week, but with the way this was split up, it just demanded I did it.  Maybe it will allow for me to get more done eventually...though on that we'll see.  Anyway, we shall now conclude the 7/25/70 countdown with some kings of rock, the godfather of soul and...prepare yourself...one of the first unintentionally funny songs we've come across (courtesy of a blind Alabama musician):
