7/25/70 (pt. 2) - Get Up (I Feel Like) A Cookie Monster

 It's sort of strange getting two entries in one week, but with the way this was split up, it just demanded I did it.  Maybe it will allow for me to get more done eventually...though on that we'll see.  Anyway, we shall now conclude the 7/25/70 countdown with some kings of rock, the godfather of soul and...prepare yourself...one of the first unintentionally funny songs we've come across (courtesy of a blind Alabama musician):

7/25/70 (pt. 1) - The Supremes, The Cetera and the Walker

Sort of got a bit more energized to get a blog entry done today with some of the work I did this weekend on prepping up the next year of the blog.  Yeah, I'm still doing '70 for the time being, but I had some time and I decided to catalogue the songs we're going to get into for 1971...if we ever get to it.  Anyway, as I warned (probably just on Twitter but not sure), this is going to be a two-part entry because we got 8 songs to get to this time.  So this time, we're starting off with two bands off Motown, and two bands from Chicago (with one of them being...well, named after that city!)

7/18/70 - Three Degrees of War and Peace (with Kenny Rogers)

I'm not really intentionally releasing these blog entries one week after another, it's just that it's how it's turning out with the way my life has been as of late.  But hey, we got a really peculiar lineup this time: two standbys of Philly Soul, two of the biggest and most notable hits of their times...and Kenny Rogers the hippie...no I am not making the last one up.  I wish I was...but I'm not.

7/11/70 - Soul Love, Hippie Love

I really, really, really should have gotten to this sooner than I am, but I've been so busy as of late with all that's been going on in my life that I didn't get to until I actually heard my big finale to the last entry on the radio.  Besides, we don't have five entries this time around...just a bit of variety but enough to talk about regardless:

7/4/70 (pt 8) - And In the End...an Off-Key Note

I knew it was going to take time to get through my first 40 songs of 1970 (even if this is all the start of July), but somehow...I've finally made it to the end and can start going forwards into the year a bit more instead of just hanging around one week. (though we did learn a lot from this first fourty...well I have)  We've got quite a few notables in this final set from the first days, including two Motown acts, a writing trio formerly of Motown, and one of the strange-but-true songs that perfectly conveys the power of a well-written song...and an eerie electric piano.

7/4/70 (pt. 7) - The King, the Fab and Two Sweet Singing Sisters

Happy new year to all of those reading this blog.  Originally I sort of intended to just do a long, ten-song entry this time to sort of clear away the rest of the first 7/4/70 countdown so we can start moving forwards a bit now we're getting grounded in this really groovy era.  But...this entry has two of the most important forces in rock and roll history back to back in the same countdown...and one of which I just had to speak a lot about because they're probably one of the biggest bands of all time and one that I love as well. (not to mention this is essentially the end of an era for them with any other by the band being released long after their were technically together)  Likewise, two major female singing stars also make breakthrough performances in this entry, as well as a neat little one-hit-wonder from the a band from Kent. (just so they won't be left out of this):
